An Meá Publishes 08-09 Performance and 09-10 Targets
30 Jul 2009

An Meá has published its Group Business Performance for 2008-09, and Group Objectives and Targets for 2009-10.

Seán O’Donnell, Executive Chairman comments, “We recognise that open and transparent communication with interested parties is fundamental to building their trust and respect. We therefore openly provide information about our business, including publishing the targets we set for ourselves and reporting our performance against those targets.” For more information, refer to our disclosure matrix.

Despite a very challenging global economic climate during the 2008 – 2009 year, we are proud of our accomplishments. Some of our achievements included:

  • Launching a Climate Change service offering
  • Achieving Greenhouse Friendly™ carbon neutral certification from the Australian Government
  • Opening an office in Perth
  • Adding two members to our Australian team
  • No breaches of our Business Principles
  • No Lost Time Injuries for the 12th consecutive year
  • Continuing our funding of Wakakirri, extending a relationship that has lasted for more than 10 years and has been responsible for several hundred thousand Australian school children learning about sustainability

Unfortunately, performance in several areas did not meet our targets. Some of the areas in which we did not perform as well as we had hoped included:

  • Our business in the Russian Federation suffering a significant downturn
  • We were unable to retain our Russia-based staff
  • Not achieving our financial targets
  • Not completing our group-level management system

A detailed view of An Meá Group performance against Objectives & Targets in 2008-2009 can be found here.

For the 2009-2010 year, we have set some aggressive and exciting targets. We plan to expand our service offerings, enter new markets, renew relationships with previous clients, and market innovative products. Some specific goals include:

  • Commercialising Haz & Zard: The Hazard Management Board Game
  • Embedding Emissions Monitoring in our management system
  • Strengthening our presence in the West Australian market
  • Leveraging our track record of success in the Russian market to enter the market in Kazakhstan
  • Expanding our existing relationships with key clients
  • Renewing our relationships with past clients
  • Continuing our support of Wakakirri
  • Capitalizing on the opportunities presented by the Australian Government’s implementation of the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme by providing climate change response services

You can find a complete description of our Objectives and Targets for 2009 – 2010 here.

Looking forward, Steve Williams, Managing Director, commented, “Although we experienced financial difficulties in the last financial year, and did not deliver against a significant number of our targets, we can nonetheless be proud of our achievements during very tough times. Our core asset remains in place. We are well placed to take advantage of any improvement in the economic climate, and are looking forward to a return to modest profitability in 2009-2010.”
